Shape
magazine, Fluidity Wellness and Virgin
Active have teamed together to help
raise funds and grow awareness around
Breast Cancer. Breast cancer
is the most common cancer in women worldwide
and the incidence of breast cancer is
increasing annually by
1 - 2%; however, if caught early the
cancer can be cured. The mortality rate
from breast cancer has decreased by
20% due to newer approaches to management
such as early detection and systematic
treatment of patients in the form of
chemotherapy or hormonal therapy (Breast
cancer – know your body (SA);
Dr Carol-Ann Benn and Prof Desmond Pantanowitz;
07). Our aim is to create greater awareness
around breast cancer, so that early
detection can save many more women and
men.
On Saturday the 24 October 2009, Virgin
Active will open its doors in the morning
to the general public for one hour,
for a FREE Yoga class that will take
place across all 93 Virgin Active gyms
nationwide. Supporters will be encouraged
to wear pink on the day (non-Virgin
active members will need to sign a health
form before gaining entry into the gym).

The
launch of the campaign will begin in
the August issue of Shape (on shelf
15 July). The first announcement will
be a teaser campaign notifying our readers
of the upcoming event. Shape and Fluidity
Wellness will be selling Yoga mats at
R299.99 each through Shape Shop and
all profits will go towards breast cancer
awareness. We will also be partnering
with Vida E Caffe who will assist with
selling the mats throughout the duration
of the campaign, as the more mats that
are sold, the more money is donated
toward breast cancer. Our yoga mats
are eco-friendly and the production
process is toxin free from beginning
to end (please read below for more information
about the mats).
Everyone is welcome to attend the FREE
Pink Power Yoga Hour. Members of the
general public who do not want to participate
in the yoga class will still be able
to donate money into the Pink Power
Yoga Hour bank account that will be
opened up for the duration of the campaign. |
Eco-Friendly : Eco-claims are often
made on the basis of what mats don't
contain—particularly PVC (polyvinyl
chloride) plastic, which can contain
the heavy metals lead and cadmium, and
phthalates, which have been linked to
hormone disruption. Concerns about PVC
manufacturing, use, and disposal have
led to bans and restrictions of the
plastic in the U.S. and other countries.
Latex and PVC free
Contains NO Phthalates : Phthalates
are a family of industrial chemicals
that are used as plastic softeners or
solvents in many different consumer
products. They can be absorbed through
the skin, inhaled as fumes, ingested
when they contaminate food or when children
bite or suck on toys.
Recyclable
Anti-microbial : An antimicrobial is
a substance that kills or inhibits the
growth of microorganisms such as bacteria,
fungi, or protozoan's, as well as destroying
viruses. The production process of our
mats is toxin free from beginning to
end. |
